RATIFICATION SEEMS CERTAIN.

(AUSTRALIAN - NEW ZZALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) , WASHINGTON, loth March. With ratification apparently assured by a safe majority,' the Treaty fight in the Senate lagged- to-day. According to a most reliable authority the final vote will probably be about 66 to 26 for the ratification.

The Senate to-day agreed, to take a vote on Friday, 24th March, when at noon the debate will cease and the vots on nil amendments and reservations will immediately, proceed. The \Senate, also agreed that no amendments or reservations proposed can be voted on before next Tuesday.

Senator Shields to-day offered a reservation to the Pacific Treaty, atating thai the United States became a'party to the Treaty for the sole purpose of using its good offices to remove friction, and prevent controversies between the other signatory Powers. He said up good purpose could be served by the United States abandoning her traditional policy of not interfering in foreign politics. Senator Robinson offered an amendment pledging the Powers not to make secret treaties.
