PROTECTION OF RETURNED SOLDIERS.
■\ The protection of returned soldiers under the new Housing Act passed last session was the subject of a discussion in the Magistrate's Court this morning during the hearing of a tenement case. Archibald Lawrie, of Wellington, a commercial' traveller, proceeded against William Robinson, of Riddiford-street, to isecover possession of a tenement, ■with a shop, attached. Robinson is a returned soldier, living in the house and carrying on his trade at the shop. The plaintiff wanted > possession of the place for his own occupation. For ihe defendant. Mr. J. F. B. Stevenson urged that the provisions, of the War Legislation and Housing Acts still remained in force with regard to returned soldiers, and that the Magistrate had no power to. order ejection against a man who had served overseas. Mr. E. Hoge. "who appeared for the,.plaintiff, submitted ti at the protection of returned soldiers had been repealed. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.i, reserved his decision on the point.
