ADVICE FROM HIGH COMMISSIONER.
' The Department of Agriculture has received the following 'Cablegram,' dated Bth instant, from the High Commissioner, for Jfew Zealand, London:— , "Wool sales /opened .yesterday with large attendance of buyers. Competition at beginning hesitating,, but tone improved as auction proceeded^ ; Prices all round show decline on' closing rates last series Superior merinos, from par to 5 pei cent.; .ordinary find inferior, merinos, 10 per cent.; fine crossbred, 7j per cent. to 10 per cent.; medium 5 per cent, to 7£ ,per cent.; and coarse, par to 5 per cent, cheaper. Scoured and slipe show little change. Total quantities of ' Bawra' and free wool available, this, series, is arranged to close on ,31st March, are: 'Australian'''Bawr'a'.'- 55,000, free 71,000 bales, New Zealand. 'Bawra' 30,000, free 38,000 bales." „ '.'MARKET' STRONGER:"- ■ -; Messrs. Murray, Roberts, and Co., are? to day in receipt of a cable from Messrs. Sanderson, Murray, and Elder, Ltd., dated Bth March, reading as follows: — "Market stronger;, improved general "competition. Compared 'with present London sales' opening rates, greasy merino, best descriptions, par to -5 /per cent idvance; greasy merino,- other de-, scriptions, advanced 5 iper.,, cent. to. 10. pei cent.; orossbred, greasy, fine, \advanced 5 per cent. Compared with last London sales' closing rates, slipe crossbred market shows .no change." , ' ,

Wool sales continue firm and lately reported rates are fully maintained. About 97 per cent, of offerings are being sold. Continental buyers are operating more freely;?,"Lambs' wool goo ddemahd." The;'New-Zealand Farmers' Co-op. Distributing . Co., Ltd,,, report'having received the following cable from their London office, dated 7th March-.—"Wool £<iles opened to-day;,-good.attendance .of ibuyers; fair competition. Prices' have declined. Greasy merinos 5 per cent, to 10 per cent./'greasy, fine crossbreds 7-A per cent., greasy medium crossbreds and greasy coarse crossbreds, 5 per cent." The ;,Wairarapa (Farmers' Co-operative 'Association;' Ltd.', is' in receipt of the following cablegram from its London agents, under .date 7th March:—" Wool sales opened to-day;' and; were well attended by Home and Continental-buyers. Fine and medium crossbred declined 10 pei cent., and coarse .crossbred declined 5 per cent., compared with closing rates 'A pieviqus sale."
