.SYDNEY, This Day. . At the inquest on Mervyn Gannon, his aunt gave evidence that her nephew denied that he received assistance. fought the shark alone, and a wave ■brought him to the beach where three men assisted him. Ail was over then. The inquest wae adjourned for a week.
The council of the New South Wales State Surf Life-sa,ving Association discussed the tragedy at'Coogee in which Mervyn Gannon lost his life, and decided that while complimenting those who helped Mm ashore, it was undesirable that the association should make any recommendation regarding awards, or take steps towards having a public fund created.
