Arrangements for inaugurating' citizens' intercessory services were discussed at a meeting held in the Mayor's, room at the Town Hall yesterday. The Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P.), presided and the chief speakers were the Hon. W. H. Edgar. M.L.C., of Victoria,-and the Hon. J. G. Membrey, ex-M.L.A., also of Victoria.' Mr. Edgar said that a general state of Unrest and uncertainty prevp-iled all over the world at the present time, and there was also a spirit of expectancy of some great event, People on all sides were seeking a solution of the great problems of the world, and the object of the meeting was to consider what was the best thing to be done to prepare them for the difficulties that had to be overcome. There were certain causes at work that tended towards the disruption of the Empire, and to break down the loyalty of ita people. There was also a distinct tendency to drift away i'i'Oiii God, and the home life of the community was also noticeably slackening. He saw no hope for the world unless the people got back-to God throuah prayer. A committee consisting of the Mayor and Messrs. C. M. Luke, H. Grocoti. and H. W. Kersley, with power to add to its numbers, was setup to further the movement, and make arrangements for meetings to lie commenced as soon as possible. All present pledged themselves to support the committee in ito wotk.
