AUCKLAND, Bth March. A number of prisoners, all yotiiig, weTe (sentenced at the Supreme Court by Mr. Justice Herdman. His Honour criticised gravely the crimes of the young woman, Aimi© -M'Walker, who pleaded guilty in court to tliree charges of forgery and false pretences, and Sentenced her, to one year's reformative treatment, which He 1 reminded her was subject to .■review by. the Prisons Board.
A youth named Clifford Double was sentenced to six months' hard labour foi 1 breaking; entering, and theft at Taumamntii. His Honour referred to the fact that the prisoner liaj previously been sentenced for theft and false pretences, also for theft;* and had been treated leniently. He was sentenced in the hope that the lad would, come to his senses. '
Six months' imprisonment was imposed on Henry Samuel Barton for false /pretences at Tauranga,. He had two 'previous conviction^.: ■:. ' :John' Edward Calvert,' 19, for attempted false pretences; 'was sentenced to two years' probation; and a Maori, .Hariuha Pei, .to. 18 iribnths' gaol for theft of a heifer. He had committed several previous offences.
