CAPETOWN, 7th March.
Johannesburg is in a state of great excitement. Strikers' commandos and police are parading the streets. Several acts of gross intimidation are reported. An incendiary bomb was thrown into a worker's, house at Benoni. He and his wife beat off the 1 attackers with rifle and revolver fire.
The strikers are interfering with, the motor service, which has been started in place of the idle tra-ms, by pulling 1-off the passengers. So faT, there has not been much response to the call for a general strike, except in the building, trade. The Tailwaymen generally refuse to acknowledge the authority of ths strike call, although one train was abandoned on. the veldt, and the fires were drawn. Unsuccessful attempts ware ma.de to stop other trains. Several shops havei been compelled to close, owing to, threats by strikers. p
