MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Three first-offending inebriates came before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., who presided at to-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court. :
Walter J. Hamilton and Thomas J. M'Grath, each of whom had been previously convicted for drunkenness, 'were each fined 10s. Hamilton/ was also charged with' the ■ theft of a horse's loin cloth, valued at 255, the property of some person unknown, and he entered a plea of guilty. On this charge he waa fined 40s, in default seven days in gaol.
Thomas Tucker was convicted a-nd dischaxged for drunkennes, and was fined 40s, in default'seven days in gaol, for resisting Constable Goddington. ';
Against a man named. William Gordon there were three charges of theft of various motor accessories to the total value of £10 ss. On the application of Sub-Inspector M'Namaia, a, remand until 10th March was granted.

The monthly sitting of -Hie PetonrMagistrate's Court was held this morning before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.
Exceeding the speed h'mit in motor vehicles was responsible for the follow ing penalties being inflicted:—H. Mur T>hy, 60s and 8s costs on one charge,- and 40s and 8s costs on the other; H. S. Gilberd, 40s and 8s costs on, one charge, and 20s and 8s costs on another; A. A. Hunt, C. J. Duffy, W. J. Ives, W. B. Taylor, -Dr. H. Steele (two charges), W. Stofe, W. Carter, F. A. Weine, i). V. Ross, S. P. 0. Sullivan. H. F. Lowe, S. Kirkcaldie, and'J. L. Forsyth, on. each charge 40s and 8s costs, S. Evans, T. Pritehard, Mrs. C. Stevenson. J. R. Ashford, W. H. Makin (two charges), S. Nausbaum, G. E. Trijford, on «ach charge 20s and 8s costs. '
CIVIL CASES.
Judgment was given for plaintiffs by default in the following undefended civil eases:—T. Blyfche w Edward Pay, £4and 23s 6d costs; James Kerr v. R. C. Reid, £7 10s arid 27s 6d costs; J. W. Shnrpe Ltd), v. E. C. Reid, £14 9s 6d and 51s costs; J. A. Clark v. J. Kavanagh, £68 11s 6"d and £i 14s 6d costs; A. W. Boden and Co. v. G. H. Howell, £20 12s Id and £3 Is costs.
In a defended action, William M'Cullough 'was ordered', to' pay- the Elite Dental Company the sum of £5 with 40s costs.
In a tenement case, Mrs. W. Brattle was ordered to give up possession of a tenement to M. E. ; Rae within two months.
