A charge of 11s for cartage of a bag from Thorndon Station to Oriental Bay was the subject of a case in the Magistrate's Court to-day, J. 3. Jackson, carrier, of Wellington, suing James Samson for the amount mentioned. The defendant had refused to pay the fare, which he thought was excessive, but since then, he had ascertained that it was the legal fare. Defendant therefore consented to judgment, his counsel expressing the opinion, however, that the City Council should look into the matter of such high charges.

Messrs. Haroourt and Co. report a large attendance at their rooms, when they submitted at auction one seven-roomed and two six-roomed semi-detaohed residences, Nob. 175, 177, and, 179, Ohiro-road. Brooklyn, also a vacant section in Todrnanstreet, having a frontage of 40ft by" a depth of 100 ft and a block of land 25ft by 70ft, with a 3-roo'm«d cottage, situated in Tory-street. The three Ohiro-road residences not reaching the reserve at auotion were sold afterwards to Mr. R. Gilqhrist for the sum of £4000. The Tod-man-atroet and Tory-street properties were pawed ia.
