THE DAY IN PARLIAMENT
Having been unabl ( e to ask questions for two days, members of the House of Representatives yesterday made the most of their opportunities, and interrogated Ministers foi over an hour. One of the main topics for questions was the plight of dairy farmers and the suggested methods for assisting men on high-priced land. The Meat Export Contract Bill was read a second time in the evening, The second reading debate lasted for six hours, but the speeches were mostly favourable; the Prime Minister replied to some outside critics. Liberal members, though critical of the methods adopted in the proposals, and also doubting the wisdom of some details, yet assured the Government ■' of their assistance in promoting the success of the pool. The House rose at 1.42 a.m. until midday, after taking1 the Bill into- committee and passing the short title.
