MYSTERIOUS FIRES

FOURTEEN IN ONE DAY

CHEMICAL TRICK SUSPECTED,

s sd

(Received February 9, 10.30 a.m.)

SYDNEY, This Day.

The fire brigades and police are baffled by a series of mysterious outbreaks of fire at a house at Darling Point, Sydney. Fourteen distinct outbreaks have occurred within twenty-four hours, and the police and firemen., are compelled to remain "on the job" in readiness. The dwelling is a ramshackle place, set in a neglected garden. Ghosts have been suggested by some people; but close analysis of the 'furnishings is expected to show that some mischievous people have saturated the place with a solution containing phosphorus, the evaporation of which is resulting in the fires.
