The Ne v York Evening Journal reports from Detroit an announcement by Mr. Henry Ford, the "motor king," that ho will buy tho navies of the world at "junk" prices and turn them into agricultural machinery and automobiles if the Great Powers agree to disarm. "I might iust as well buy tho metal in those warships as anywhere else," ho s»id. "Not a ship should be sunk. Nobody would be harmed and everyone would bo benefited, as it would help to solve, the unemployment problem." Miss Hilda Johnstone, M.A., formerly of Manchester, has been appointed to tho Chair of History at the University of London, where she had held the readership in history since 1912. Sho was chosen for the post out of a large number of men and women historians. Educated at the Universities of Edinburgh and Manchester, Miss Johnstone is the author of sevoral books and c-ssays, including "State Trials of the Reign of Edwaid I." and "A Hundred Years of History, from ReCord and Chronicle, 1216-1327."
