AN UNLUCKY JOURNEY
PARER'S MACHINE SMASHED.
MELBOURNE, 7th February. I According to -advices received from Boulder, West Australia, Lieutenant Parer and his cousin Mark Parer, who were flying round Australia, crashed on the Boulder racecourse, and the machine was wrecked. Lieutenant Parer was slightly hurt, and Mark Parer was seriously injured. The accident occurred when the machine was taking off from the racecourse. It failed to rise to a, sufficient height and struck a telegraph post. | [Lieutenant Parer undertook "the flight | round Australia with the object of "providing funds to enable him to compete in the International Trans-Pacific flight. He expected to cover 10;000 miles. Accompanied by Mark Parer and Anthony Kaye he made an unfortunate start' from Melbourne on 3rd August, for after travelling 40 miles his engines developed trouble. Parer landed safely, and sent his companions away' to obtain wood fo; overhauling purposes. While the. latter were away rarer stated to overhaul the machine, but the strong wind overbalanced him, and his legs and ,-feet were caught in. the revolving propeller. ,A big toe .was broken and both feet were badly bruised. He was suffering severely, from exposure when his companions returned, and 'was remqved to hospital. The flight was »esumed on 19th- Seotemter.]
