CHRISTMAS WEATHER
IT MAY BE FINE.
-What mention of fine weather is contiu'ned in the communique issued from the Meteorological Office to-day should he accepted with reserve, for there is no jmirantce the Fates will be kind for the holidays. Indeed, there are indications that they [ may be unkind, as an angel of evil in the form of a low pressure is hovering round in close proximity to the Dominion: To-day, Sne weather rules throughout the pountr-" except at Westport and the vicinity, where showers have fallen. Barometric pressure is above normal, the highest reading be..ins 50.35 at Napier. Northerlies and easterlies are now springing up in place of the southerly winda which have prevailed in most parts of the Dominion, and these are likely to increase some■what during the next 36 hours. In the meantime, warm and humid conditions may be expected, with increasing cloud and haziness, and a fall in the barometer and a decrease in atmospheric pressure may possibly herald a change in the early part of next week. At the- preeent it is.impossible to forecast what intensity this will bear, and there is a modicum of bope that the prevailing liigh pressiiTe may hold sway until the 1921 Yuletide has .become of the past.
