LODGE MEETING

The monthly meeting of District Lodge No. 5 (Wellington), 1.0.0. F., was held in the Esperanto Hall, Monday evening, tho D.D.G.M. (Bro. J. Edwards, P.G.) presiding. In addition to routine business, degrees were conferred on members of the subordinate lodges eligible, Bro. W. Swinton, P.D.G.M. (Dunedin) delivering charges of the First Degree; Bro. H. H. Valentine, Past Grand Master (Dunedin) those of the Second Degree; and Bro. H. Dames, P.G., Degree Master (Wellington), those of the Third Degree. Interesting addresses were also delivered on the work of the Order by the visitors (Bros. Valentine ami Swinton). On Thursday evening the combined 1.0.0. F. Lodges (Victoria Rebekah No. 2, Cleveland No. 13, Southern Cross No. 24, and Zcalandia No. 48) entertained children of members, there being a largo attendance of youngsters and their parents. Father Christmas and a heavily-laden Christmas Tree iwere in evidence, the children contributed many recitations, songs, and dances, and filled in a thoroughly happy evening with games and their newly-acquired gifts. At flic request of tho District Executive, Past Grand Master Valentine addressed the parents on the functions and benefits of a juvenile lodge, which lads from nine to eighteen may join. ■ He strongly advocated the formation of a local juvenile branch, seeing the good work they were doing in th« other centres.
