It was decided to vote £3 3s towards the object. It was also decided that the shield competition amongst the members be held next month.
Mrs. Evelyn, the well-known English Jersey breeder, who is at present on a visit to the Dominion, is in the Wairarapa. and staying with Mr. and Mrs. W. Henry Booth, of "Hawarden." During the month of November, 375,----800 cubic feet of gas was consumed in the Carterton borough, as against 452,000 cubic feet foi tho corresponding month of last year., The Carterton Borough Council has fixed the animal dog itax at 2s 6d for sheep and cattle dogs and 10s for others. The Carterton Bowling Club purpose holding a rink tournament on Monday aud Tuesday next. •.
MASTERTON, 22nd December. Messrs. C. E. Daniell and W. T. Grundy, with the Rev. G. T. Brown, are at present in Wellington representing tho Board of Governors of the Masterton High School, and will wait on the Minister of. Education to-day, and urge the establishment ftf the school in temporary premises. There is at present a great rush of stock to the Waihgawa works, which for sereral days was quite unable to cope with the demand.
During November 4023 books were is-. sued from the Masterton Public Library, of which no fewer than 3986 were works of fiction.
The new school at Martinborough is now completed, and the staff and pupils have now occupied the new building. There are six large olassrooms, all well lighted and ventilated, and the structure is considered one of the most up to date and best-equipped schoqls in the Wellington education district. There were 10 cases of chickenpox and three of scarlet fever iv Masterton during November. ,
The Masterton Borough Council decided to support the Wellington City Council's resolution advocating that the rule of tho road for pedestrians should be" "keep-to the left." ' The new soap works department at tho Waingawa works, has, now been completed. This department is considered to be one of the most profitable of the company's undertakings just now. :; Hay-making is general throughout the Wairarapa^' The majority of crops are now ripening, and give every promise of a good yield. The road across the Rimutakas on the Wairarapa side, is reported by motorists to be in excellent condition. This is due very-considerably to the efforts of the Automobile Association...
