AWARD IN AUCKLAND CASE
PENALTIES FOR "GO-SLOW" AND > "STOP-WORK" MEETINGS.

:Th.9 Arbitration Court's award in the 'Auckland coal miners' dispute has been filed. The Court in a memorandum, states tliat in preparing the award it had en<l favoured to adhere to the spirit of the general conditions of the national agreement of 1920 in so far .is they applied to the Northern industrial district. The rates of pay, had been fixod as nearly as possible on the basis ofTthe 1914 rates, plus 50 per cent, to piece-workers, and 60 per cent, to time■werkers, ■ This was the intention of tHe national agreement. The increases provided for in the national agreement appeared to have been based on the food prices current in January, 1920, wh«n tte increase over the prices in July, 15514, was 57.76 per cent.
{Provision is. .made in tho award for Teferring disputes which cannot be settled by a union executive and the management of a mine to a district disputes committee, and work is to bo continued in all respects pending the decision 6J the committee. The adoption , of1 a "go-slow" policy,. or the holddng o& "stop-woTk" meetings without the permission, of .the manager at any mine, ■will be ■ -regarded as a breach of the award, anil all participants in such' a breach will be liable 'to dismissal, in addition to any other penalties to which itljby may be liable.
