At tho breaking-up ceremony at the Terrace School to-day Mr. Ales. Johnstone (chairman of the School Committee) presented 135 attendance ■ certificates gained throughout the school as well as the proficiency, endorsed competency, and competency certificates gained by the pupils of Standard VI. He reminded the scholars that the competency certificate was the pass for«the standard; but that the proficiency and the endorsed competency certificates were really scholarships. The former entitled the holder to free tuition in any secondary high school oi college in the Dominion, while the_ latter entitled the holder to free tuition in any technical school in the Dominion. He congratulated all the recipients, but especially Eleanor Maelaurin (dux) and James Cashman (dux) to whom he presented handsome gold medals, suitably engraved. He announced thai a gentleman had generously donated both medals, but had especially asked that his name should not be divulged.

Girl: Olive Marrinor. School Atlilotia Championship.—The Lloyd silver cup was won by Norman Fordham. Tho winner received as his own property a gold medal donated by Sir John Luke. The runners-up (Robert Stankm and Noel Mailman) each received a silver modal. S.P.C.A.—Of tho six prizes awarded to the primary schools for the "Huge Essay Competition," "Kindness to Animals," three- were received by pupils of the school. The winners were: —lst prize (15s), Eileen Duguid; 3rd prize (10s), Dudley Lylian; 4th prize (7s 6d), E. Warren Parr. Elocution Prizes.—The first prize for elocution was awarded to Leah Pitkowsky, and the second to Ingn Blackwood. The prizes were donated by Mr. Culford Bell.
