A man named James Frederick Ros» appeared at the Magistrate's Court today to answer a charge of breaking and entering the dwelling of Vv. Dvysdale, Greytown, and stealing a quantity of sugar and one pot of jam, valued at 3bs. A remand to appear at Greytowiv on the 28th December was granted, bail being fixed at one surety of £100. Mr. W. A. Midlane, accompanied by his daughter, left for Sydney to-day by the Maheno. There was a large attendance at Messrs. Harcourt and Co. s rooms yesterday afternoon when they submitted at auction, under instructions from the Public Trustee, in the estate of the late Mrs. Susan Smith, a 7-roomed residence, known as No. M, Lawrence-street, and on behajf of Lit RCampbell Begg, who is moving to Boul-cott-street, an 11-roomed residence, known as No. 301, Willis-street. As the bidding did not reach the .reserves, the Proßf rbes were passed in, and are now in the; hands of tho auctioneers for private sale at tne upset prices. The Waterside Workers' Band will, play selections at Newtown Park to-night. Messrs. Williams and Co., Ltd., will sell pianos and furniture at the Auotion Arcade, Courtenay-place, to-morrow, at t p.m.
