Wills (aged 16), who came from the Sunnier district, fell between the engine and its flywheel when putting on a belt. One of his legs was badly cut, and the kneecap was fractured. He was brought to the Hokitika Hospital, but was held up for some hours during the journey by floods. His condition is serious, owing to loss, of blood.
