RESIGNATION OF CHINESE ADVISERS
EASTERN SETTLEMENT "CUT AND
'DRIED."
(SPECIAL 10 itUTRAUAN.K.I. PMSS ASSOCIATION.)
(Received December 8, 9 a.m.)
WASHINGTON, 7th December. Following the .example of-the-Secre-tary-General, three of the Chinese, delegation's chief advisers announced their resignations to-day. American opinion in official circles ia that the resignations axe a blunder of considerable magnitude, and even" the Chinese themselves are divided. One group deprecates the action as premature; another approves it, arid counsels a more determined attitude, and insistence on the Shantung railroad dispute being adjusted .first, instead of the minor differences which'are now being given attention. That section is disappointed with the.-achieve-ment of the Conference. It frankly says the delegations have decided-just- how far Eastern matters should be settled, and that China will be forced to take what is given her and ■will not be allowed to ctiange the ' tariff treaties. Most of the things in dispute are left to a Commission/to study and report
