May, an ex-captain in the volunteer Spanish legKfti, defends the treatment of British legionaries, saying the treatment was according to ithe men's behaviour. Those proving themselves soldiers were treated as such, and offenders against discipline were punished. He r admits. that the conditions were not congenial to Britons, who were previously warned in that connection.
