NEW YORK, 7th December.
The press unanimously ■ welcomed the news of the Irish settlement as foreshadowing peace throughout the world.
The New York Times in an editorial says: '-'It is a striking tribute to the sincerity and good sense of the dele- ! gates on both sides. Nothing can abate the deep satisf action with which, the whole world will receive" the news./. . . English political genius has found a way to put an end to the evil relations exist-, ing between Ireland and England for more than 700 years." The Chicago Tribune in an editorial says that the good-feeling between the United States and Britain was impaired by what had happened in Ireland. If Britain had used real coercion in Ireland, the United States would have been in a turmoil. The settlement will be a good' thing for the United States. The New Orleans Timeß says that the success of the Irish negotiations will everywhere be hailed as a, sign of better and happier times, not only in Ireland, ["England, and the Empire, but for all of US. The Boston Globe hails the birth of the Irish Free State as the most auspicious event since the American Civil War. The New York World says : "There is cause for great Tejoicing throughout the world over the Irish settlement. It is an agreement for peace, founded on justice and common sense." The Daily Express says: "It is imposas though the evil spirit which infected the AngTo.-Irish relations ,will be exorcised finally, and Ireland soon will enter th« company of free nations.
