Siv James Allen to ; day unveiled a memorial tablet at ,Walton-on-Thames commemorating 27,000 New Zealanders who were patients at the two hospitals. Sir James Allen said that more New Zealand units were represented in the local cemetery than in any other part of Europe and Egypt. Walton was more New Zealand than any other part of the EJmpire. The. Maoris, who were only 'intended for garrison duty, persisted in going to the front, fighting till they fell. A tablet will later be erected at the entrance to a- new thoroughfare to be called New1 Zealand Avenue.
