THE FRENCH "BLUEBEARD "
LANDRU BEFORE THE COURT
(ONITES PRESS ASSOCIATION.—UOPIRIORT.)
(AUSTRALIAN - NEW ZEALAND CAELE ASSOCIATION.) PARIS, 7th November.
Extraordinary interest is displayed in Landru's trial at Versailles. The town is crowded, especially with women. The so-called ''Bluebeard" entered the packed Court smiling, and showing entire self-possession. THe reading of the accusation lasted several hours. The details of the murders, the burning of the bodies, and the/ thefts were bo monotonous that the President suspended the sitting for a while during the afternoon. The reading was concluded at 5 o'clock. Landru, answering the President, protested his innocence anew. A hundred and fifty witnesses will be called, of whom 140 will be women. These filled a great part of the Court. They are of all ages from twenty to fifty, and all classes from humble working girls to widows with comfortable fortunes.
