MIRAMAR CHAMPIONSHIP.
A match between H. R. H. Balneavis and L. D. Hurst yesterciay completed tho semi-finals ;of . the , Mira-nar Golf Club's senior championship. Two rounds of 18 holes each were played. Hurst was three up at the end of the first round, but Balneavis reduced the lead after the first three holes of the second round. Ho was unable to follow up his advantage. The fourth and fifth holes were halved, and Hurst won the next. On the seventeenth teo Hurst was dormie 2, and winning that hole finished 3 up and 1 to play. Hurst will meet Turner next week in the final. '
According to the New Zealand Herald, a charity g^olf match has been arranged between Mr. Wilkie Bard, comedian, and E. S. Douglas, New Zealand professional golf ohampion, to be played at Miramar, Wellington. Mr. Bard is to concede Douglas two strokes a hole and undertakes to donate £50 to the fund, for the Plunket Nurses' Home if he beats the champion. "The, match,'' said Mr. Bard, "will be between the best golfer in New Zealand and one of the worst." He added that he loved the game of golf, and he held th« music-hall pennant in Britain, where he had beaten, among others, Harry Lauder at South Shore, Blackpool, Jimmy Wilde, the well-known boxei, Tommy Burns, and Joe Beckett. Mr. B«rd added: "It will be great fun playing Douglas, and if he lets me beat him in order to get my £60 for the Plunket Nurses' Home—well, those who witness the game will have an enjoyable time, and I will be able to say that I beat the New Zealand champion.'*
