The opening ceremony in connection with the Otaki Bowling Club took place on Saturday afternoon, when there was a large gathering of bowlers and their friends. Unfortunately, rain fell early in the day and prevented play to any extent being carried on. The president, Mr. T. H. Windley, declared Jhc green open, and gave a hearty welcome to all. Mrs. W. N. Simcox then bowl»d the first bowl, and play commenced, jjuring the day, Mr. H. Mitchell, patron of the club, presented trophies won during the season, and complimented the winners on their success. The patron's trophies were won by the Rev. Mr. Petrie and Mr. Albert Smith (pairs), while Mr. J. R. Boll's prko was" won by Mr. Nat Williams (singles). The Otaki Brass Band enlivened proceeding. Afternoon ten was provided by the ladies. A ,nnk from the club will visit Foxton on Wednesday for tho opuniii;,' of th» season there.
