INTERESTING FINALS

The public and the executive of tho Competitions. ' Last evening's programme of finals was well varied, and included some • first-rate classes. Good \york indeed was done in the piano duet for young players, ten to twelve years, and' the judge expressed himself a's delighted with the playing of the winners, Miss.P. Robieson and Master K. Fitzgerald. Masters Bobbie Ottonand Dennis Elliott, who were awarded 164 points, but four behind the winners, were also"-complimented upon their playing-, although they lost _ points through having made a, selection of a poor number. Highland dancing always pleases, and the programme contained just enough of it, and all of that good- Several vocal items, a "Shakespearean recitation, and children's items made up the re--; mainder of the enfortainmont. During tho evening the president of the society (Mr. L. R. Partridge) presented Mr. E. V. Hudson, conductor of the Napier West School Choir, with the Stewart Dawso'n Shield, won by his choir in the chorus test (12 and under 16 years), and referred to the splendid behaviour of the visiting choir. Mr. Hudson, iv reply, thanked the officials for their oourkepy and kindnetas, particularly tho secretary (Mr. Q. W. Jennor), t'r>9 stage m,anager_ (Mr- VV. P. MaeLachlan), and th« official accompanist (Mr. Harold WhitHe). The members qf the Billeting Committee too, he said, deserved the best thanks* of .the parents of I tho Napier children.
