RANFURLY SHIELD MATCH

WELLINGTON v. SOUTHLAND.

Towards the end of last season Wellington, when,on tour in the South, lost the Ranfurly Shield to Southland, and to-morrow the opportunity is to be given the local representatives to regain possession of the trophy. Southland, under the same conditions as governed contests when Wellington was the champion province, has brought the shield on tour, having successfully staved off Otago's challenge earlier in the season. The prospects are that Wellington will make the visitors exert their utmost energy to retain possession, and on present form, shown in Wednesday's match against New South Wales, many people ■ think the local team should regain for Wellington the Rugby premiership. The Southland team is young, and can be .ex-1 pected to make a good showing. The match should provide bright football. The teams have been chosen as follow:— WELLINGTON. Full-back: Siddells. Ryan (supports), J. Shearer, Parker (back row). . . . . Emergencies: Backs, *D. Algar, Aitken, Hutchison; forwards, Duncan, d« Clifton, Price. SOUTHLAND. Full-back fI. Brown.
