DELHI, 25th August.

In connection with the Moplah disturbances in the Calicut district, the Malabar district has been proclaimed a military area. Mr. Batty, a Magistrate, with an armed force proceeding to Pattamdi, met a crowd of Moplabs, whom he warned to keep off the railway, under penalty of being shot. The crowd continued to advance, whereupon orders were given to fire, with Lewis guns. The casualties are not known, but are beileved to have been heavy.', Mr. Batty's force returned to Shoranur, and later proceeded to Cotaparam, where the Moplahs threatened an attack yesterday. The Moplahs attacked the Cherapolachery police station, and destroyed the records. They burned the sub-treasury at Periatalamanua, and looted it, and eight thousand sterling was stolen. There were similar outrages elsewhere. The population was not molested, but consternation prevails. (PIBDTSfI'S TIUGRAM.) DELHI, 24th August. The latest communique states that the operations against the^Moplahs are proceeding satisfactorily, though the disturbances' are widespread. Large bodies of police and troops have been sent to the district. While a party was marching 'from TirurangaSi to Ferok, they were' attacked on all sides, and found the line cut in several places, but eventually succeeded in entraining for Calicut. The police force at Malapuram-is isolated, but safe. The railway is cut in several places, and roads blocked. The public offices at Kottakhal, Tirur, Manjeri, and Tirura.ngadi are known to have been gutted. Two British soldiers, another, European, fifteen police, and. local officials at Tirur have been taken prisoner. _ . Another message from Calicut states that two hundredj Moplahs attacked the sentries guarding the Nilambur Palace.-. They fled to neighbouring houses, and the assailants followed and slaughtered, thirteen inmates, including women and children, and then returned and set fire to the palace/which was destroyed, with its contents.' Another party of rebels is reported to have visited the'Pullen-' gade estate and captured and beheaded a European named Eaton, and burned, his bungalow. Inspector Headman, of the special police, has also been murdered,, and his body thrown into a, river. Looting'on an extensive scale is proceeding.
