WELLINGTON ROWING ASSOCIATION

The twentieth annual report of the Wellington Amateur Bowing Association, to be presented at the annual meeting next Thursday, states that during the yeat His Excellency the Gover-nor-General (Lord Jellicoe) consented to. become patron of the association. Mention is made of the challenge shield, presented by Mr. P. W. Mothes, for inter-club competition. The first contest for this shield was held on the 12th March, and resulted in a somewhat easy ,win for the Wellington Rowing" Club. The executive trusts that this competition may have the effect desired by Mr. Mothes—an increase of interest and friendly rivalry among affiliated clubs. Early^in the.season, Mr. W. J. Bridson presented the association with a silver cup for competition in junior sculls at the Wellington Regatta. This cup was won at the annual regatta by Mr. N. Smith, of the Union Boat Club, Wanganui. The association's annual regatta was held on the 12th February, and, as the date was but a few days before the championship regatta at Picton, the entries were'very good. Twelve entries were received for the junior pairs, and other, races of the lower status were almostfas well supported. The executive was glad to receive an

ontry from the Petone Bowing Club for the senior fours, and trusts, that the coming season's regatta may be gup-; ported! in the senior races by air clubs. An amount of £140 was donated to. successful clubs during., the season, this, amount being raised almost entirely by public subscriptions. In this connection ' the. executive appeals' to individual t members of .affiliated clubs forsupport.
