HOME GREENS CRITICISED,

AUCKLAND, This Day.
The first of the New Zealand team of bowlers who toured Britain to return to the Domihion arrived by the Makura this morning—Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Rankin (Auckland), Mr. H. Frost (Wellington), and Mr. G. Grant (Oamaru). A good few of the party will be leaving England this month, and a few will not be back until Christmas-time. Mi. Rankin said they had had a wonderful trip. The people of the Old Country had received them with- open arms. When the tour was undertaken it was intended to play thirty games in ten weeks, but instead they finished with fifty-eight games., The team was very successful. Fifty-four official and four unofficial games were played, and out of that total New Zealand won thirty-seven and lost tw«nty-one. On the whole tour the number of shots scored by the New Zealanders was 6262 as against 6007 credited to the United Kingdom, a majority of 255 in favour of the colonials. The standard of play at Home is considered by Mr. Rankin to be just about the same as in New Zealand, but their greens were a great disappointment to our people. This was rather a surprise, as it was expected that something extra-special would be found; instead of that the greens that would -compare with what would be called a good green in New Zealand coulr". be counted on the fingers of one hand/ "On some of them the New Zealand bowler would hot think of playing," said Mr. Rankin.
