At the Board of Trade inquiry into the cost of living, representatives of city firms gave evidence that though the cost of production has increased, there has been a solid drop in the price of women's apparel, in some lines' by 50 per cent., since last year; but prices are still 150 per cent, above the pre-war rates. In the Newcastle district, the price of groceries has fallen by 27J, per cent. Evidence given at the Victorian Basic Wage Inquiry shows that.the yearly cost of clothing a family consisting of husband, wife, and three children has fallen from £82 in 1920 to £64 per cent. ,
