WELLINGTON COMPETITIONS SOCIETY
A meeting of the executive council of the Competitions Society was held last evening, Mr. L. R. Partridge presiding. The Governor-Generil wrote accepting an invitation to be present at the opening ceremony on 30th Augiist. The secretary reported that the entries constituted an easy record for the Dominion, the total received being 2215. Comparison witli last year's figures shows the increased interest taken in the festival. The numbers in the various sections with those of last Wear given in parentheses are: —Instrumental, 265 (195); vocal, 688 (643); speeches, 14 (12); olocution, 855 (657); Highland dancing, 197 (217); fancy dancing, 167 (71); cover designs, 37 (21); the total increase being 399. A handsome silver cup was received from the GovernorGeneral, to be awarded as a special prize in tho boys' elocution championship. It was decided to extend an invitation' to the Springbok and New Zealand football teams to bo present at the secpnd demonstration concert. ■
