, CHRISTCHURCH, 3rd August? At Addington the annual "Grand Natonal" market was held to-day. There was aw outstanding 7 entry of special sli6w beef and mutton from - Smith Oiago, North Otago, and Canterbury, with several lines.from th« North Island. Thb number of exceptionally prime steers exceeded that of previous years. The top beef _price for show stock ,. was £70, others selling at?£63, £55,' £50, £45, and under. A record for the yard was established in fat sheep, four purebred two-tooth Suffolk wethers making £16 6s 6d each. Other show wethers sold at £6, £4 11s, and £4 Is 6d, and hoggets at up to £3 2s.
Excluding show sheep, the mutton yarding was particularly large, comprising about' fifteen races. Beef was sent forward in average numbers. Store Sheep.—An average yarding and a poor sale, except for good ewes. Fairly good two and four-tooth ewes in lamb realised 20s Id to 25s 4d.; fairly. good .six and eight-tooth ewes'in lamb. 21s 4d to 22s Gd;v ordinary four, six, .and' eight-tooth ewes in lamb, 16s 7d to 17s 8d; sound and: failing mouthed ewes in lamb, 13s' to 176; two and four-tooth wethers, 11s 2d to 18s lid; four and six-tooth wethers, 11s 8d to' 14s lOd; ewe hoggets, 10s to 10s 8d; mixed Be* hoggets, 9s to 12s lid, wether hoggets, 9s Id to iOs Sd. c .
Fat Sheep.—A record yarding and an easing in prices. Prime wethers Tealised 19s to 31s; medium, 16s to 18s 9d; inferior, Hs to 15s 9d v' prime ewes, 17s to 225; medium. 14s to 16s Sd; interior, 11s to 13s 6d; hoggets, 11s to slßs 6d. Pat Cattle.—Prices advanced about 30s per head on those of the previous niarket. Extra prime steers realised £26; prime, £15 to £15,1d5; medium, £11 to £14 10s; light and inferior, £7 to £10; 10s; extra prime heifers, £18 10s; prime, £10 to £12; medium, £7 10s to £9.105; light and inferior, £6 10s to £7 ss; prime cows, £10 to £14 10s; ordinary cows, £5 153 to £9 15b. Vealers.—A sharp rise was «Xperienced. Runners realised £6 10s; good vealers, £5 to £5 10s; medium vealers, £3 to £4; small vealers, £1 to £2'2s 6d. Dairy Cattle.—A keen demand and an advance in prices. Extra good cows, £18 10s to £23" 10s; second and third calv'crs, £8 .to £15 ,10s; heifers, £9 to £14-;, a^ed cows, £2 to £6.
