WAIHORA ARRIVES FROM NEWCASTLE.
The Union Company's cargo steamer Waihora arrived at Wellington last evening with a load of coal, from Newcastle. The Waihora left Newcastle on the 29th July, and made a good trip of five days. Moderate gales with heavy squalls were experienced on the voyage. Captain J. Mawson' is in command, and lie has the following officers:—First, Mr. J. W. Cameron; second, Mr. A. Brockett; third, Mr. H. Hall. , ; I ■
While the steamer Durham was loading at Montreal for New Zealand, her. commander (Captain J. Watkins) took ill and died. Captain F. P. Haines, late chief officer of the Dorset, was promoted to the vacant position.
The Karma is due at Wellington on 'Sunday from Dunedin and Timaru. She is K> leave here on Monday for Auckland.
The Kini is expected to get away from Wellington this evening for Picton and Onehunga.
The Kahika has been fixed to load coal and timber at Greymouth next week for Wellington. . .
