THEN AND NOW

PRICES OF OTHER DAYS.

A commercial traveller, who was on tho road for a Wellington grocery and general house iv 1892, placed at the disposal of The Post to-day his order book, showing wholesale prices then as compared with prices today! The following interesting comparisons were obtainable, prices for spirits and tobacco being in bond:—

Cream of tartar,, dates, dry ginger, and tea were about the same prices in 1892 as to-day. Milk and wax vestas were imported; they are locally made to-day. There is less dependence for many .lines of pickles and preserves . in the Old Country to-day than in those days. Then the 400-gallon tank was worth SOs to 60s. To-day it is worth £10. Goods came out packed in these tanks, which, too, have been largely Superseded by the corrugated locally-made circular tank. ■ .
