INFECTIOUS DISEASES
During the week ended at noon yesterday 54 cases of infectious disease were reported in tho Wellington Health district—three fewer than were reported in the previons week. Hospital districts reported cases as under:—
Waipawa.—Scarlet fever, 1; varicella, 2. Palmerston North.—-Scarlet fever, 8; diphtheria, 3. Wellington. — Scarlet fever, 5; diphtheria, 3; tuberculosis, 4 j varicella, 8; influenza, 3; pneumonia, 6; erysipelas) 2; ophthalmia neonatorum, 1. Wairarapa.-^-Scarlet fever, 1; diptheria, 1; pneumonia, 1. Nelson.—Scarlet fever, 2; diphtheria, 1; influenza, 2.,

Marriages between French soldiers in the Rhine Army and German girls have given riso to a complicated question of international law. According- to French military regulations soldiers have their civil marriages carried out by their commanding officers. The German authorities aro contesting the. validity of these unions, saying that a German registrar should be present at the ceremonies. The French retort is: "Where the flag is, there is France!" "'
