PALMERSTON N., Ist August. Sergeant-Major and Mrs. A. Sharp, who are to leave on an extended holiday to the United Kingdom, were entertained at a social gathering by parishioners of St. Peter's- Church, with which they have been associated for some time past, and presented with handsome travelling rugs.
A man named Frank Lee, a casual employee at the railway station, sustained rather serious bodily injuries today by a case falling upon him, necessitating his removal to the hospital. During last month 55 births, 21 deaths, and 23 marriages were registered in Pahnerston North.
At the Police Court to-day William Henry Gerbes, who was found sleeping iin a railway carriage early this morning, was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment. For being drunk and disorderly, using indfecent language, and breaking a prohibition order, Henry D. Codyre received a similar sentence; while John Quinn, for, drunkenness and breach of a prohibition order, was sent to gaol for a month.
Four potitions in bankruptcy were filed in PaJmerston North last month, makImg the total number for the first seven months of the, year fifteen as .'against (sight in a similar period last year.
