JAPAN IN SEMI-FINALS
CANADA'S CHANCE AGAINST
AUSTRALIA.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION,—COPIRICHT.) (AUSTRALIAN - lIBW ZBALANV CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received July 21, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, 20th July. The Davis Cup Committee haß announced, that the Belgians are unable-to come to America. Their default puts Japan in the semi-finals. ' ' TORONTO, 19th July. Judging from the Australian Davia Cup team's form in the Ontario chain., pionship games, the opinion here is that Canada has a better chance of surviving the elimination games than was formerly conceded. Only two Canadians as yet I have been chosen—Bennett and Holmes, of Winnipeg, who -were' defeated- hr the doubles final by Todd and Peach (Alls- j tralia). The Canadian pair were beaten, 6-4, 5-7, 5-7, 7-5. 6-4. Todd has shown excellent form, but the other Australians are patchy.
