TWO-POWER STANDARD ABANDONED
OPPOSITION TO NEW SHIP 3,
LONDON, 19tb- July.
The Daily Express understands that a strong Ministerial j;ioup is endeavouring to hamper the building of four new naval ships proposed in this year's Estimates. Admiral Beatty and Mr. Churchill are in the minority in favour of immediate construction, reminding the Government that if these ships att not built' the British Navy will sink to third place among the world Powers by the end of 1924. At v present, it is officially accepted, the standard of British sea strength is on an equality with the strongest other naval Power. Britain has thns abandoned the two-Power standard which she maintained for more than sixty years.
