AMATEURS AND WIRELESS
'•'■ to ihi ibiioß. "'■.;■ f ' Sir,—With regard to Mr. Webster's recent letter on "Amateur Wifeless," I am glad he agrees with me on one or two points, and I would like to< explain that when I said that , the. "wireless amateur was an unmitigated nuisance," . I was, of course, referring to those who .-entertain themselves by the misuse',,.of sending apparatus. Certain types." of,"-valve-receiving, apparatus are liable^ to cause disturbance to neighbouring Jstations by careless adjustment or connection of apparatus, but, for certain ■ reasons, I. feel fairly sure that the Government stations in this, country .are .'not likely to be so disturbed. With.regard to the Departmental information >- published this evening, I do , .not know, whether the reporter or his informant' have much technical knowledge-of-the subject, but,the report is both.uritechnical and inaccurate. The paragraph: "'The amateur experimentalist is liable at any time to set such a sudden voltage. in his antennae, with disastrous -results to adjacent commercial., wireless,; 1 tions" is really laughable. However,* the ■ only way to prevent . such ..•terrible, catastrophes is to keep the heavy foot on all amateurs who want to meddle with wireless-sending apparatus, winch brings me back to where. I started, Q.E.F.. I leave the Q.E.D. part" of the business to some daring amateur/with a ten-inch spark coil and a concealed antenna.—l am, etc., ' . : . .v . v \rH.M.L, 19th July. •■,,.- ... i;
