NEW ZEALAND HEMP MARKET.
Private cablegrams from London all report a depressed hemp market. The High Commissioner, advising, London 9th July, reports:-— "Manila market is dull, with a downward tendency. Spinriers holding' oft" owing to theabsence of orders for , cordage. 'J' grade, May-July to August-October shipments quoted £36 10s per ton. It is reported that with a view to clearing accumulated slocks, weak llbre, Philippines Government considering pro^ hibiting production and grading of lower quality from M' Mown. New Zealand market quiet, with sellers, high-points, July-September shipment, £35, and fair, spot, £J4 per ton."
