LEEDS 1899-1921

The fifty-fourth, Test between England and Australia was the first to be played at Leeds—on 29th and 30th June, 1899. Rain prevented play on the third day, a.nd hi- consequ-enea the match was drawn. Armstrong 21) and 207 (W. W. Ai-mstrong 45, M. A. Noble 31, H. Carter 30, V. Ransford 24). England 182 (J. Sharp 61, J. T. Tyldeslay 55) and 87 (J. B. Hobhs 30), Australia was represented by P. A. M'Alister, S. E. Gregory, V. Ransford, M. A. Noble, W. Bardeley, W. W. Armstrong, V. Trumper, C. G. Macartney, A. Cotter, H. ' Garter, amd F. Layer. G. L. Jessop was selected to play for England, but, owing to a severe strain he was unable to bat in either ifrnings. The remaining members of the team were : '0. B. Fry, J. B. Hobbs, J. T. Tyldesley, J. Sha-rp, A. C. MacLaven, W. R. Rhodes, G.*H. Hirst, A. A. Lilley, S. F. Barnes, and W. ißreariey. The 1912 team did not play at Leeda, brrt the present team are scheduled for the next Test at Leeds on 2nd July.
