The engineers and transporters declined to participate in the conference regarding a gentsral strike, which is doomed. A patched coal peace is likely to be realised. The only practical question now is how to assist the leaders to persuade the miners to cut their j losses. Meanwhile the railways are receiving mysterious extra supplies .of coal, and are resuming many of the services -which wire cut out.
