An interesting statement of the effect of increasing the subscriptions to-tho public libraries of Wellington was placed by the Libraries Committee before the City Council on Thursday night. The information in the report dealt with the number of subscribers, the subscriptions, and books issued for periods NovemberApril, 1919-20 and 1920-21. The figures for 1919-20 'are in parentheses. Central library: Subscribers, 2290 (3262); subscriptions, £572 10s (£407 15s); book issues, 79.016- (79,265). Newtown: 949 (1452); £237 5s (£lßl 10s); 47,315 (47,979). Brooklyn': 99 (159); £24 12s (£l9 17s 6d); 3429 (3484). Totals: 3358 (4873); £834 7s 6d (£609 2s 6d); 130,660 (130,728).'
