LONDON, 11th May. Mr. A. Henderson, in the House of Commons, moved for the repeal of the income limit provisions in the Old Age Pensions Act, in order that thrifty pensioners might not be subjected to the poverty test. He admitted that this would involve an additional expenditure of £13,000,000 annually. Mr. Henderson succeeded in carrying the d'osuM against the'tjovernment, but with the aid of the Coalition whip an amendment, declaring that the reform was inopportune in the present state of the finances, was carried.
