MOASCAR CUP COMPETITION

N.Z.R.U. APPROVES THE RULES.

The Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union met last night. Mr. G. W. Slade presided, and others present were Messrs. Gi Howe, E. Little, E; Wylie, A. Griffiths, R. T. Bailey, H. Paton, and S. S. Dean.

Rules for the Moascar Cup competition for the present season were adopted. Entries will close on 10th June, schools desirous -of entering being required to notify the New Zealand Union through, the affiliated uaion in whose boundaries the school ia located. Matches will be played under, the jurisdiction of the union controlling the ground used, and, after the travelling expenses of the team have been met, the nett proceeds will be allocated in the proportion of 25 per cent. to the union concerned and 75 per cent, to the New Zealand Union, the latter amount to be added to the fund for fostering school football. Matches will be played in two spells of forty minutes each or in four spells of twenty minutes each. In the event of a drawn game, two extra spells of ten minutes each are to bo played, and during these extra spelte force-downs are to count as one point each. Masters and teachers will not be eligible to play, and no player who has reached the age of twenty years on or before 31st March, 1921, is to be included in any team. Annual matches between secondary schools will bo allowed to count for, the purpose of this competition, provided notification to that effect is given at the time of entry. The cup will be held by the school winning the final match until the conclusion of the next annual competition. The draw for the first round of the competition will be announced as soon after the closing date of entries as possible, and the competition itself will be arranged so that the final match wiH be played during the second term vacation. It was further agreed by the meeting to admit the Maori Agricultural College, Hawkes Bay, to the competition. The Otago Union asked the meeting to reinstate J. Douglas, who was disqualified for life in 1915 for approaching another player "to sell a match." It was explained by the Chairman that it was claimed that Douglas had been a tool in the matter, and had since had an honourable career as a member of the N.Z.E.F. Mr. Bailey moved and Mr. Howe seconded, that, in view of these circumstances, Douglas be reinstated. As an amendment, Mr. Wylie moved and Mr. Paton seconded, that the correspondence bo forwarded to the English Rugby Union, and that that body be asked : (a) Whether the N.Z.R.U: has power to remove the expulsion? and (b) if not, whether the E.R.U. will grant the power? The amendment was carried. For using bad language and threatening a referee, Walter Douglas, a letter from the Wairarapa. Union stated, had been suspended for five years,. The suspension was approved by the meeting, which decided to instruct the Wairarapa Union to notify the player that he has the right of appeal for fourteen days. The inter-island match was fixed for 2nd July, at Christcbm-ch, 'and it was decided to play a further match, New Zealand Tast Possibles v. New Zealand Test Probables, at Wellington, on tho following AVednesday. Selectors wero appointed as follow:—North Island, Messrs. Malone, Griffiths, and Nicholson; South Island. 'Messrs! Wilson, Stewart, and Dr. Noble Adams.
