M'Donald (chairman of the Board of Trade) leaves for Auckland to-day to attend the sittings of the Tariff Revision Commission, of which he is a member. Among those represented at the Labour deputation to the Acting-Prime Minister yesterday afternoon was the Rentpayers' Association in the person, of Mr. S. Dyson. Congratulations on his re-election to tho City iCounoil have been tendered to Mr. W. J. Gaudin by the Council of the Wellington Central Chamber of Commerce, of which he is a member. The Management Committee of the Wellington Bowling Centre, which met last night, warmly congratulated Mr. S. Underwood, secretary of the centre, on his election to the City Council. On tho eve of the departure .of Mr. H. Baldwin from Wellington, ScoutI master Mason, of Lower Hutt, sent him 'the following telegram :—"Good luck, a plain trail, and good, camping." Mr. Baldwin's response was a cheque for l£3 3s- ■ ' ': . , ■; ■ • Mr. J. Daniel, who has been chief clerk in the Railway Department at Pa,hi.atua, has been transferred .to Wellington, where lie will join the relieving staff. The position vacated by Mr. Daniel at Pahiatua has been taken by Mr. Halpin, of Napier.

Mr. W. F. Langdon, director of the associated . companies—Messrs. Harrisons Ramsay Pty., Ltd., N.Z., and Messrs. Fraser Ramsay, Ltd., Melbourne, is at present in New Zealand on his way to London, and is inquiring into the present business conditions of the Dominion.

At the funeral this morning of, the late Donald Robert Ritchie, a member of the New Zealand Expeditionary lf orce who died at Trentham on Sunday, Mr. Luke, M.P., represented the Wellington citizens, one of his last official ■acts as Mayor of the city. Among others present' Colonel Mitchell. M.P., D.5.0., and Captain Hardliam, V.C., represented the Returned Soldiers' Association •and Mrs. Luke the Women's National Reserve. A party of boys ; from the training ship Amokirra paraded, and paid a last tribute to the "memory of the deceased soldier. A representative of Base Records Office attended on behalf of tho Defence Department.

The ex-Mayor^ and Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Lulte). were yesterday afternoon the recipients of presentations from the assembled staffs of the City Corporation. Mr. Luke was presented with a handsome engraved gold watch, and Mrs. Luke with a beautiful pendant. 'The Town Clerk (Mr. J. R. Palmer), in making the presentations, referred to the staffs' happ;- associations with Mr. and Mrs. Luke during the past eight years. Tributes to the recipients were also paid by the City Engineer (Mr. W. H. Morton), the City Solicitor (Mr. J, O'Shea), the City Valuer (Mr. James Ames), and the City Treasurer [Mr. Charles Collins). Mr. and Mrs. Luke feelingly returned thanks.
