CANTERBURY PRODUCE MARKET
(tY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
CrIRISTCHURCH, 10th May. There is a cheerier, tone about the oai market, which is slio\Vhsg good signs of recovery.- A fair amount of nibbling, from the North Island, lias taken place, and a buyer has been down evidently on behalf of a number of firms,* but, as far as can be ascertained, with little result.
Old oats are cleaned; upi, and no offers worth speaking of having come in from the growers, local brokers are not disposed to quote. B grade Gortons' have been sold at 3s 3d per bushel f.o.b^, s.i., during the past few days,, for North. Island requirement*. New season's are practically unobtainable, and the nominal quotation would probably-be. about 2s 4d to 2s 6d at country stations. The evidences are that the NWth Island is fairly bare'of supplies. This fact invests the market with a. brighter outlook:
Last year's Algerians have been sold at 3s 3d per bushel f.0.b., s.i., there being a sharp inquiry from the North for these.
Chaff has firmed, and is quoted at £3 10s to £3 12s 6d pe£ ton at country stations. ' .' '.'"..;'.' ....-
' There is still a quantity of barley in farmers' hands, with little demand for it. Good malting barley lias been offering without result at 3s 3d per bushel.
